Damn... I don’t get paid until tomorrow... Also gotta ask my aunt for her membership card, 😅

Silver only online. Picked up the space gray in store. Needed something as my 2017 was a dud and have no laptop.

This is definitely a great sign that a new MBP is just around the corner. We keep talking about the 16 inch MBP, what about that 14 inch?

The 128GB drive isn't a problem, but the bare minimum 8GB RAM and i5 processor makes this much less of a deal. You can get an 11" iPad Pro with keyboard and pencil for the same price.

Obviously what you expect to do with the computer determines whether or not it's a good deal. For me, this would be an overpriced web surfing machine.

That’s the problem.

There are a few things I can’t do on an iPad Pro.

Coding is a major reason I want a MacBook, as well as another program that I can’t use on an iPad Pro.

If it wasn’t for that, an iPad Pro would be awesome.

Just curious, but what type of coding do you do. I do mostly ML and services, and code these days mostly in the cloud or via websites. The iPad Pro has been worked OK for me.

I’m learning to code. Using Codecademy to learn.

Price Matching at BB is def a YMMV. Really torn between getting this now or spend the extra $ next week for the 256gb.

This is where I’m at, too!

It’ll be my main computer for a year or two, so I need to think wisely...

but for half of the upgrade I can spend on an external portable drive...

Not an ad. Just an FYI on a pretty good deal on the base 1.4GHz MBP. Deal starts today, the 30th. Kinda makes buying a new Air pointless if you can get a quad-core-based notebook for about the same price.

I wish the 256SSD had the same deal. I need more storage. But for $999. I might pick one up next week. I don't have a COSTCO membership, but my parents does. I may ask them to pick one up for me. Is this the one with the keyboard issue? Thanks.

Can Best Buy price match this?

Yes they will...... I bought my MacBook Pro 13' on Wednesday then saw the Costco add yesterday. I went on there website today and chatted with a BB representative they asked for there SKU and the Costco website address to compare. They then asked for some info from me and came back 3 minutes later and said they are able to price match and credited the difference back to me.

So convenient didn't have to call in or go back to the store!

I chatted with their customer service online and they told me they would.

They also price matched Apple’s student discount for the other MacBook Pros.

Don't agree with this at all. I think it's the opposite - the iPad Pro is an overpriced media consumption machine. I'll take a full-on computer all day long over an iPad. Especially the quad-core MBP that's on sale for $999. Throw in a Samsung T5 500GB SSD for $90 and you've got a pretty sweet setup going there.

Agreed. I initially bought an iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard, which totaled about 1500 after Apple care and taxes, thinking it could replace a laptop.

Totally wrong and by the time I regretted the purchase it was too late to return everything for a MacBook instead.

That’s on me, though.

I kept checking Instagram and constantly saw photos of people “coding” on the iPad Pro, so I assumed I’d be able to do it, too.

Clearly I was wrong.

I do like my iPad Pro and did want an iPad, but knowing what I know now, I would have gone with an iPad Air and the base MacBook Pro instead.

100% agree here!

I had a 12.9 iPad Pro with keyboard and pencil totaling $1300. It was very cumbersome to use and navigating numbers with out a trackpad and a normal keyboard was SOOOOO frustrating. Took it back for the MacBook Pro as it was basically the same price. Now that I ended up getting it for $999 I'm thrilled and absolutely love the thing and can navigate numbers so much more efficiently.

Could you give a link on this?

I can confirm that Best Buy will price match Costco for $999 plus you get 18 month financing because I recently purchased the 128gb model. I was in the market for the 256 but nearly a 25% discount (and under a grand) was too good to pass up. Costco will offer a similar discount that comes out to 20% off for the 256gb model later this week, bringing it down to $1199.

I use iCloud anyways and currently only used 90gb of my 256gb hard drive (which shows 250gb total capacity), so I assume 90 of 128gb won't be so bad (which will likely show around 120gb total capacity). Also, of this 90gb, half is taken up by iCloud storage which probably also I'm assuming includes files I downloaded from the cloud.

I should mention that I'm the type of person who changes my laptop nearly every year, so I'll be looking to get the new thinner bezel 13" MBP whenever it releases later next year and will sell this one off at that point.

The ad link for the 256gb version is here but you will have to wait till Thursday: https://bestblackfriday.com/ads/costco-black-friday/page-8#ad_view
