But... I'm guessing this phone watch is a pretty recent release right? Why is it a selling point that its specs surpass old tech like the original iPhone?.

Nobody said it was a selling point. It's just interesting :)

Also, it's a heckuva lot better looking than some of the early attempts at a watch phone:

I hear what some of you are saying, people love using the phone, and maybe it's a better choice for most but I would rather go for a run without my phone and I'm betting a watch can and will replace the phone at some point. I really hate having it in my pocket, or even in a holster, heck I hate keys, wallets, etc, the thought that a watch could replace all of that is just awesome to me.:)

I would love to just throw on a pair of shorts and strap on a watch and that's IT. would LOVE it. I almost never take my phone out in the yard, on a fishing trip, boating etc, and I forget to take it with me many times.

A watch is perfect for me if it had wifi/cell bands, and I'm certain in 6 years we will have thin plastic phones that wrap around the wrist or are easy to fold up in the pocket with no chance of damage, I'll take that.

In the distant future this tech probably gets implanted, youth in the future will joke about our phones just as they currently do about corded phones. Not sure I would do that, but people will.

We just need to find a suitable hole on the human body to INSERT a large batter pack :D

If only I could think of a place we could put this!

You can buy a watch phone now, of course.

ZDNet even noticed that a lot of its specs were similar to, or better, than the original iPhone:

The Samsung Galaxy Gear S is like having an iPhone on your wrist

iPhone Gear S
===== =====
1GHz ... 1GHz
128MB... 512MB
320x ... 360x480 display
2G ... ... 3G
802.11... 802.11n
BT ... ... BT 4.0
1 day ... 2 day battery (moderate usage)

Yeah seems like OP was asking if aWatch would ever be as good as GearS.

Easy, just the same as you do now.

With a phone, you hold the phone and lift your hand up to your ear, there is no reason why it could not be worked out for a watch to work in the same manner with a speaker.

Speaking would be fine as you can get sensitive mics anyway.

I have used my watch to answer a phone call a few times - even if the call is only a few minutes, my wrist is sore.

This is a two year old thread, created almost six months before the original launch of the Watch...
