T-Mobile will totally support your unlocked iPhone if you choose to use it with them. They have no obligation not to. If Apple was genuinely opposed to unlocked iPhones they would have signed up with a CDMA carrier like verizon or sprint which would make it physically impossible to activate phones whose IMEI's weren't registered to the network. Go for it, T-Mobile CSR's have been trained and are knowledgeable about what they can offer you. T-Mobile is carrying the iPhone albeit in Germany. Don't forget T-Mobile is a German owned LLC. This is getting so ridiculous.

So you can call T-Mobile up and they will troubleshoot the iPhone with you?

What does Deutsche Telekom owning T-Mobile have to do with anything? Hey throw in that they just purchased SunCom........not that it adds anything :p

Then throw in Vodafone owning 45% share in Verizon Wireless........yeah it is ridiculous.

Yes they will, They will do there best to help you with any GSM phone because thats why the standard was created, so that any GSM carrier could support any GSM phone.

My reference to them being owned by DT is that Apple is being really stupid about this whole scenario. I would equate it to being able to use you mastercard in the states but not in europe. It's just plain ol' goofy and totally backwards.

And I'm not sure what your point is about Vodafone and Verizon except that they both told Apple to piss off.

Kinda how Amex is accepted in some stores not in others.

I do agree with no subsidy I should be able to get the unlock code and use the phone where I please. Sadly that isn't the deal.

But if a store does accept Amex, or Visa or whatever for the sake of an argument they could care less what bank or institution issued it to you. You can use it! As I said before this is a very slippery slope, If they truly wanted exclusivity in their product as opposed to a mass market they would have diligently chosen the protocol(CDMA) that would allow them to do so, which is not GSM.

It has been well documented that this was their original plan, at least in the US but they couldn't get Verizon to budge. Meanwhile Google is in the wings taking notes and waiting for all this to pan out. They will sell easily 2X as many phones as Apple mark my words.

I agree, it will be sad for Apple. They are making so many mistakes that will cost them in the long run. It's obvious to me that they are looking at some type of Anti-trust law suits in the EU court system unless they provide an unlocking alternative for European users. Check back 1 year from now. I love the iPhone, I'm just starting to really hate Apple's business practices.

Google has a LONG way to go before they even sell one phone.

As I said I love the iPhone, but someone will do better. The Google phones will most likely be subsidized/unsubsidized dependent on your choice of configuration. GSM for your sim toting pleasure, free apps based on an open source platform, and easily modifiable.

As for your assertion that Google has a long way to go, the same was said about Apple before June 29th.

Well first they have to win the bandwidth assuming that is the route they are going. Then the infrastructure has to be established. Just won't be easy as making the phone and hoping on with an existing carrier.

Hey there are even rumors Apple might jump into the fight now.

My point exactly, t-mobile is already are in bed with Apple and if they all agree with each other the few unauthorized users will not be considered, the big money talks and zap; brickland. Do you think t-moblie wants to fight a battle with Apple and Att when they are in business together, just to protect the dubious rights of a few hackers?
