I don’t know why this is even an article. This is pure speculation on Gruber’s part, informed by pure speculation on the part of one of his readers. And now MacRumors is running with it like it’s the real deal? Most people don’t have the reading skills (let alone the reading comprehension skills) to understand that this is pure speculation. Suddenly you’ve got a bunch of clicks and responses thinking this is actually going to happen. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so darn sad.

If you want to know what I'm hoping for check this video out.
The one thing this video doesn’t show is the latest version of Lapz places onboard previews onto the cars on the virtual track. You tap a car on the track and small onboard and data window pops up above and moves with the car around the track. One of my fav features.

I generally ignore most commenters on MR who bash products or Apple because many are N=1 experiences and usually overdramatic.
Apple could showcase this great new experience on a new generation cheaper AVP that has been talked about
Absolutely burgman, I hope there is a next generation coming but lets prime the pump today with what we have. Maybe give fans something to look forward to next year or the after when an affordable version comes out.

Eddy Cue already teased in a recent interview there will be a full iPhone and iPad component to be able to switch camera views to your favorite driver and essentially control your experience. That's going to be the common use. I'm sure this would translate to Vision Pro too, except no one has one nor remembers it exists.

As an F1 fan who also owns and uses an AVP daily, I can't wait!

Let me lend some perspective. There was an app that spent it's entire life cycle in beta for the AVP called Lapz (search youtube for Lapz F1). I had access to it for over a year through TestFlight and I have to tell you, it was the best thing on my AVP. Again, rather than trying to describe it, look up videos of it to understand what it does. You have a movie screen size video of the broadcast race but then you have a 3D track on the floor or on the table where you can see the whole track and what cars are where...you just have to see it to know how insanely good it was and all the things it let you see and do. Lapz was eventually shut down for not having the rights to the broadcast and as of this year, it totally stopped working.

Since the day it was announced that Apple had the broadcast rights to F1, I have been waiting and checking daily for an announcement about their version of Lapz. The team at Lapz have gone silent for months and even looking up information yields nothing. I have asked Chat GPT multiple time if perhaps Apple bought them or are collaborating with them to no avail.

To those who think this is pointless, I 100% disagree with you. I am on a group chat with five other F1 fans and if Apple does this as well or better than the Lapz beta, two other friends of mine will purchase AVPs. If apple implements some sort of group viewing, it will be epic for our group who live all over the US. I envision sports bars with ten AVPs where fans can rent and watch the race together. As an F1 fan, you really just need to have experienced Lapz to understand the potential.

IF Apple does this, I think they will sell a bunch more AVPs just as I think if there are more spatial NBA games (more teams) they will sell even more.
Sure, and I’m genuinely happy for you if it happens, but the demographics of those who will buy a Vision Pro for F1 viewing is still significantly smaller than those who bought an iPhone mini, for example. So this is more of a prestige project for Apple.

Many will enjoy this but I had motion sickness 2 minutes after watching F1 the movie in immersive video. I want other sports as well.

Cool idea but highly doubt it will shift more units.
It most certainly won’t shift more units. Even if the VP was $1500, most consumers are just not interested in strapping a heavy device to their face (and I say this as an owner).

However, this is FANTASTIC ground work! This is the point I think most people miss with Vision Pro. The hardware for delivering a complete Vision OS experience within the frames of traditional glasses is advancing at a rapid pace. Within 5 years or less we will be there. Google has already shown something similar with project Aura.

By the time the hardware is ready, Apple will have the best spatial computing ecosystem bar none. With a transition this big, you have to play the long game. Vision Pro was just step 1.

They should make paragliding first-person view 3D 360° videos. That would be spectacular.
But I guess 3D on F1 is a start!

I'd be happy if they even utilized the IMAX footage to offer a 16:9 home video release. The 2.39:1 release on Apple TV is just laughable.

I don't know any CEOs or executives, but speaking as a consumer, I can tell you I have no interest in one, my spouse doesn't, and neither do all my friends. I may be poor, but some of the people I know are not, and even they said it isn't worth the money. I seriously think the product was released out of hubris; to see who is dumb enough to buy one. I don't think Apple really expected it to take off considering the only person ever to be pictured with one was Tim. It really feels like they put bait at the end of a hook to see which sucker will chomp at the bit.
As a lover of F1 and Apple products, I am not interested on Vision Pro, just like you

MacBook Pro, iPhone 17e, all of these are spec changes and aren't even worth a media event. I am surprised that it is left till early March and not end of Feb. The only one is Low Cost MacBook...... um....

The Vision Pro and F1 idea makes more sense because you have to be in person to experience it. However I dont know a single person around me who purchased one. And having tested it at the store I simply dont see myself owning one any time soon. Even if it was $1999.

And I dont see how F1 would change that either. It is sad that recent Apple doesn't seems to have any idea what they are doing.

Seriously Apple. Read the room. Who cares? The 6 people with a Vision Pro? How about some innovation in consumer technology. You’ve been back-foot for several years now. Aging tech like Apple TV, a Siri that’s less useful than it was in 2013, glass effects for the sake of a new image that wasn’t needed. As a long-time Apple fan, I’m so over you. Strongly suspect I’ll be going elsewhere for a new mobile later this year, and that makes me sad but also excited to try new things not a camera increment.
Seriously Apple?

You’re acting like Apple has said they’re doing it when it is purely media speculation.

I don't get why everyone in these forums are so negative on AVP. Yes it's experimental. Yes it's expensive. there weird thing is you don't hav to buy it! you could just move on with your life and not care. I suspect people are just angry at the price. I think it's a great tool. They really just need to do two things outside of lessening the price a bit. 1 lighten it. 2 increase the FOV. I would work from it every day if it was just about 30-40% lighter. the FOV is not terrible but would be nicer at about 120. 50-60% lighter and it's would be phenominal and about the same price as a spec'ed MBP.

It's a cool feature, just wish I could use it to watch more sports like golf, football, hockey, baseball, etc. Eventually we'll get there...so baby steps in the meantime...

Probably easier (but not cheaper) to get an Apple VisionPro than tickets to the Melbourne Grand Prix (and technically AVP is cheaper than Paddock Club tickets as well).

This would be a great addition if I had an AVP but apart from the cost in AUS for the battery life is a killer.

Whilst not worth it for one race it might be nice for the other races I cannot possibly get to. I would love to control the data I am receiving on screen more rather than relying on the broadcasters decision to show the almost useless "time to leader" info when watching a battle between 3rd and 4th. Might even be able to get the in car vision that is only available Sky Glass and the other options that the teases Australians with.
