Apple have confirmed that the new iPhones will release later than usual, probably October time. With the fact that apple tends to release the new iOS and iPhones roughly the same time, do you think they may hold off on the os until the phone launches and buy themselves more time to fix bugs?

Probably not. IPhone X was delayed but it was still announced in the usual September event.

I hope not. I've been waiting for this release since WWDC and I don't really want to sign up for the Beta since this is my only Iphone. I was hoping it would come out in a week or 2.

Considering the WWDC was a good 3 weeks later than usual, the whole iPhone 12 line-up will only release in october, and the beta test is just beginning the weekly release phase, I think we are still a good month away from a public release. My bet is the first week of October at the minimum.

Maybe if BOTH new iPhones are delayed....given current situation, anything can happen
Yea I'm sure they will need GM somewhat before the first model(s) is/are ready to ship. And I don't mind waiting within reason for the phones. I just want the announcement at the usual time.

Sadly it is looking like October for the iPhone 12's, and late November for the 12 Pro's from what a lot of rumors are pointing to :(

I would like to know what they will do for people on iUP so they don't pay useless payments this year, and then next year will need to pay extra payments in bulk to be able to upgrade at the normal September time again.

I don’t see that happening. We are already on beta 6. I am guessing we have 3 - 4 more betas before release.

Unlike previous years though beta 6 does not feel anywhere near ready yet. I am personally not enjoying it all, it may be a case of carerful what you wish for as we have ben asking for a more interesting home screen experience but right now widgets just feel half baked and buggy to me. That huge gap for example between the dock and bottom row is just so un-apple. I can imagine that would have kept SJ or JI awake at night.

iOS is a separate from iPhones. iOS 14 (currently on Beta 6) appears to be stable. iOS has always released before iPhones and it should. If the iPhone 12 is indeed coming in Oct, Apple will have time to release iOS 14 patch any bugs before the iPhone launch.

I think it is coming September still, it would be the first time since iOS 5 that a version has not been released in September. Just because the iPhones are delayed doesn't mean iOS will be too. iOS versions usually release slightly before the iPhones anyway, so I think there's precedent for it. Having iOS 44 released in September might also be a "stopgap" to help hold people over until the iPhones actually launch versus delaying everything.

The betas being buggy is not going to delay it.

I don’t see them releasing the OS before the phone. That just would not make sense at all. The rumors are that the iPhone event will be in October so that means the OS will be released in October

You seem to be a minority here. Most of us have had great luck and enjoy it immensely, at least from what I can tell in other threads, and every main thread for each beta. I have been using it since PB was released and have had pretty much no issues other than the minor widget bugs.

Dont they normally announce the new iOS at the WWDC, then there is a phone announcement in September then the new iOS is officially launched followed by the phones a couple of weeks later?

That said, at the same time iPhone 8 was also announced in September that year and was released on September 22, 2017.
