Could Mac Pro be for me?

I use the 2011 13" MBP to do regular day to day tasks, and I have a separate Dell tower that I use for games. The MBP is quite snappy but I've just noticed that I almost never use it outside of the house (or even around the house), but rather I just use the OS at a desk. I would just get the base model.

I'm beginning to use Ableton Live, an audio production program, to make electronic music. I mention this because this is probably the most "pro" application that I would be using. I'm an intro computer science major as well, so I am starting to write code. I may, in the not so distant future, use this machine to render graphics and applications that I write for myself.

I like the idea of having one tower to do daily tasks, gaming, and my music production, if that further develops.

I'm interested in the Mac Pro for the upgradability. How long would a 2012 refresh Mac Pro last as long as I upgrade it every year or so? What is the limiting factor that causes Mac Pros to become obsolete as long as you keep upgrading the parts? For my needs, what components of the tower get the highest priority for optimized throughput?

So I suppose I'm asking if this would be justified overall? And I realize that only I can really answer this, but I'm looking for opinions nonetheless.

I'd only bet on getting four years out of the machine staying at top of the line.

    Past that, it'll keep running.

Well if I would be happy with this for 4 years then that'd be great. I've gotten a new computer every year for the last 4 years lol.
