I Pre-Order it from ATT, but it hasn't arrive yet. I'm doing an upgrade swap with my sister... so what would be the proper procedure?

She doesn't have data either, as she is using a regular cheap phone.

How would I activate the ATT iphone 4s when it comes? Do I use the sim it came with and then put in my iphone 4 sim after?

I have the iphone 4 unlimited data so will that mess up?

Will my sister be able to continue to use her cheap phone? And all I have to do is just call and cancel the data on her line?

Thanks!

Your sisters phone will be deactivated she will need to get a new sim and activate it once your done the swap. Then remove the data plan on her account.

I heard that some people only need a new sim because they pre order it from apple or verizon?

I pre order it from ATT so will that change anything?

When I ask for a new sim... will they put her number back into it?

Thanks, sorry for the confusion.

OK, with an AT&T preorder you can just take your current active Micro-SIM from your iPhone 4 and use it in the new iPhone 4S. Don't activate the new Micro-SIM on your sister's line or that will kill her current Mini-SIM on her dumb phone.

Your sister also now has a brand new iPhone data plan on her line, you added it when you ordered the new iPhone 4S. Since, she is going to keep her existing phone, you just need to call Customer Care and provide the rep the IMEI number of her current phone and the rep will remove the new iPhone data plan from her line.

Now the most interesting part for you. You need to decide if you want to update your line's information with the IMEI of the new iPhone 4S in the AT&T billing system. The debate is still ongoing about this but if you do the update then the Care Rep will move you from your current iPhone Unlimited Data plan to the new iPhone 4S Unlimited Data plan.

Now there is still more information to be found out concerning the impact of this change to your data plan. Some here on the forum swear that it is the only way to get the higher speed data connection. I am still waiting for more information before I make a decision.

I don't 100% buy this story since only the Unlimited data plan feature has been added, the tiered plans have not been updated to indicate an iPhone 4S feature. So stay tuned as we get more details.

Thank you Dave for answering my question!

Just to be clear, when I cancel my sister's data plan... will I be charged for that month?

Thank you

No, all features are pro-rated based on the number of days active in a billing period. The new contract should start just before the new iPhone 4S ships and the data feature should be future dated but you might have to pay for a max of 1 day of data depending on your actual billing date.

Thank you Dave.

So... just

1. Activate using my iphone 4 sim right away.
2. Call att to cancel my sister's data plan

3. Leave the iphone 4 unlimited data plan alone OR call to switch to iphone 4s.

Thanks Dave.

Thank you
