Could someone explain to me what exactly a Mac Mini does?

It's a computer. In the same way a Mac Pro is, but much MUCH cheaper and less a lot less powerful.

Plug in any monitor, keyboard and mouse and you will have a Macintosh Computer 🙂

You plug in a monitor, keyboard and mouse and then turn it on. It's just a computer, only smaller.

It all depends on what you will use it for. Just based on what I've seen from you on this thread, it should be fine.

FWIW, I love my Mac Mini. It's a pretty good "gateway Mac" for those considering transitioning from PC to Mac. It's powerful enough for most daily tasks. I probably will upgrade to a Mac Pro in another year or so, but I don't regret having bought the Mini. It's a good low-investment way to move from PC to Mac. I should have done this years ago.
