We're seeing continuous reports that Apple is not going to add USB-C to the iPhone, but instead, they are envisioning a port-less phone very soon. Now with prototypes of the iPhone with a smart connector, and the fact that the iPad Magic Keyboard supports PD charging through it's smart connector, wouldn't it be a great idea to re-introduce a MagSafe type of charger?

The only problem with this is wired headphone options. It's bad enough they took the headphone jack away, but without a USB-C or lightning port, there will be literally no way to plug anything in and we'll have to depend on wireless with all it's drawbacks for everything.

Also, if Apple truly went all-in on Qi charging, wouldn't that also force them to ship every iPhone with a wireless charger?

Nobody has seen prototypes of an iPhone with a smart connector. There was a video I saw today that confused the smart connector with the pencil's magnetic connector. Take a look at the iPad Pro. The smart connector provides both power and data and looks like this:

The magnetic connector is for the Apple Pencil and just charges it. It looks like this:

Not necessarily. Doing so might be a waste. They could offer different SKUs with and without wireless Qi chargers. Not everyone needs a new charger every time.

But surely with the work Apple and others have putting forth with reverse wireless charging, they could implement a two-way method for that charging station. I guess I can't fathom why else Apple would add the magnetic connector since it does not look like a good place for a mini Apple Pencil since the power button is along the same side.

We won’t know until Apple announces the phone. Remember the main reason these rumors exist is to generate clicks. People make money every time we click on them.
