Do other headsets have this issue? Moving your head around causes smearing of text etc. When you walk the image is shaky. Even tapping the headset on the side makes everything shake. I don't recall if the quest did this.

Supposedly it’s an OLED issue somehow, in that the original OLED Oculus (now Meta) Quest apparently suffered the same issue. The Quest 3 and 2 do not suffer from this issue at all (I have Quest 2, Quest 3, and Vision Pro).

which one is your favorite?

The “smearing” you’re referring to may have to do with dynamic foveated rendering — if so, I would imagine this could be corrected in a software update.

No, it's nothing related to that

Smearing is due to OLED and can't be solved. The only option to improve it would be to make the screen less bright or to reduce the framerate.
It's one of the reasons why Meta switched from LCD to OLED and LCD again.
The only option would be to wait for a future version of the Vision Pro with MicroLED displays, MicroLED would solve it.

Motion blur from cameras could be improved but at the expense of more noise/less sharpness

MicroLED really does sound like the solution to so many issues in the OLED space. Can’t come soon enough.

Are we sure about this tho? I dont know the margin of safety or unused brightness of the AVP’s displays. It’s entirely possible there’s some extra brightness that can be unlocked via software to decrease the duty cycle of each refresh.

You’re right but probably they’re already using the maximum brightness because on a headset like this you want to use the maximum brightness due to the low persistence making it decrease.

I believe the 5000 nits become 500 nits if I’m not wrong

Ahh yes..

"MicroLED"

It reminds me of solid state EV batteries

We keep hearing about these things, but the viability and costs continue to be prohibitive (sadly)

Actually, I could see them being conservative with the specs on release and bumping them over time as more data comes in from the field. It wouldn't be unlike what happened with Quest 2 and the increase in refresh rates over time.

Increasing the refresh rate would help, because then they could leave each frame up for shorter to get equivalent brightness.

It does seem like it should be possible to have shorter strobes with a lower minimum brightness setting.

Wow, here I thought I'd better not move because I tried walking up/down the stairs and the view shook so much I thought I was on acid...
