Cheers for all the reply's, but im actually mentally confused! All i want to know now, is how much 'extra' i would have to pay or my friend would have to pay (say for any tax/vat or wateva) on top of the $659.

Depends where they live. Each part of Canada has a different tax rate.

Alright... Im only looking for advice... But i believe, it is 5%, correct? So does this mean i only need to pay an extra 5% on top of the $659? Or is there more?

5%? Based on what evidence. I believe that sales tax in Ontario is significantly more than that.

Correct, so with this 13% VAT that bumps the 'UK equivalent' of £470. Still £20 cheaper.

However, does my friend still have to pay the Import VAT? or just VAT from Apple?

My understanding would be that as he is exporting the product he should be able to reclaim the Canadian VAT from the Canadian tax authorities (this may take some time/be difficult) and then pay import VAT in this country. This would be playing it 100% by-the-book.

As I noted before in practice it'd be easier to dump all the packaging, make it look like an in-use phone, pay Canadian VAT and not declare it at customs accepting the small risk.

Just buy it from the UK it's going to be less of a hassle and will probably turn out cheaper. Plus if your friend bought it from Canada I don't think the applecare would work in the UK. So if you broke your phone your friend would need to get it and take to an apple store in Canada.

When my friend buys the iPhone 4 from the Canadian Apple Store, does he pay the VAT there and then, or some other time?

Op you might as well get it in the UK to save all this hassle lol

They will reply and state that they need some more info and payment of £20.

You can then quote this link:

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/69128-apple-iphone-4-unlocking/

And ask that it is unlocked free of charge.

As its a Pay and Go Phone, does that mean (when its unlocked), i can only put Pay and Go SIMs from different networks in, or can i put my Pay Monthly SIM from Three into it when its unlocked.

Did you learn nothing from the start of this thread? Quoting myself "All phones are the same". There is no such thing as a PAYG iPhone. It's down to the SIM in it and nothing else.

Lets make this as simple as possible: once unlocked you can use any SIM from any network.

Alright... don't get your knickers in a twist...! Ok so last thing, If i bought an iPhone 4 from Vodafone, does it have a Vodafone Warranty?

I don't get it...you consistently tell people not to get their knickers in a twist and get aggravated at people helping you, yet you can't do a scrap of research yourself. Save yourself some time and go to vodafone.com and search iPhone in that little innovative search box.

Ok dude..having read this thread through I can see that you're just not willing to google this yourself and want others to do the work for you. Seriously, google is your friend. That said, I'm not going to be a naysayer and not help. Just start doing some work yourself.

The iPhone is a piece of hardware. Any hardware has a warranty with its manufacturer (Apple). Therefore, the iPhones warranty rests with Apple.

Unlocked iPhones work with any sim in any country.

You will pay Canadian tax at the store when the iPhone is bought. Find out how much that is to figure out what the iPhone will cost you.

You SHOULD declare it by UK law but if you want to circumvent that for your own personal reasons, that's up to you.

@OP: I hope you don't take offense at what I am going to say, but if you and your friend decide to import illegally, then you deserve to get caught and punished. Aside from paying for floating duck islands for idiot MP's, our taxes pay for roads, schools, hospitals, police etc. and everybody who scams the system hurts everybody in the UK, particularly now as budget cuts are coming. Just sayin'...
