Wanted to watch a movie tonight, none of the streaming channels had the 4k version, only on Google Home did they have it.

Ok, revy it off Google start it on my phone, then click the cast icon in the corner, and...nothing.

45 minutes of troubleshooting and reading guides, and everything I tried I just couldn't get my Pixel 10 Pro to connect or cast to my LG C3 OLED TV. It was beyond frustrating.

Thing is, in the past I know for a fact I've cast YouTube videos from my phone to TV, but for some reason couldn't do it watching in Google Home to cast, it just wasn't showing up or giving me the option .

I triple checked every setting and option on the phone and on the TV and read online and just couldn't get the two to connect for casting.

Was there a change or something lately to prevent Pixel phones from casting to LG TV's?

Without a "chromecast" or Google TV Android TV or whatever they call it now, casting is hit and miss.

It is true that some apps or services built into various smart TVs can be "cast to" without the streaming appliance but it is hit and miss. Youtube is a common one, probably because goog builds it into the SDK or mandates the functionality in the license.

And, you generally have to cast "service to service" if not using a dongle, that is, Netflix to Netflix, Prime to Prime, as opposed to browser to Netflix, for example.

Do you mean "Google TV" as opposed to Google Home? Home is a home automation app/consolidator where various non-google services may be "accessed," but is typically not a streaming service/movie provider. My guess might be that you found a movie on a service provider (Netflix, Prime, whatever) linked to your Home that failed to cast to the corresponding app on the TV, either because the TV app doesn't permit it, or you weren't casting "app to app."

If you have the dongle, you can cast basically a phone screen to a TV, that is, almost anything you can get up on a browser screen or Android screen, you can put on your TV screen. But that variant will be lower-fi and glitchy, so not what you want with a 4K stream. In this mode, I believe the data stream from your phone is actually "redirected" to your TV. In the other modes, app to app, the TV app is merely directed or pointed to the stream, so it's more "native."

All of the smart TV built in apps are mediocre, in my opinion. LG is not much worse, or better, than any of em.
