Yesterday, I received an E-mail from Apple about the pending iPhone 3G release and, in that E-mail there was a link to an iPhone 3G web page. Upon clicking it (yesterday), the page it took me to had text specifically stating that the 2.0 firmware was going on July 11. So, since yesterday, I've assumed the official release would come tomorrow (Friday).

However.... I dug out that E-mail from my trash and clicked the link again. Now all I see is the mention for the iPhone 3G being available starting at 8am tomorrow morning and I don't see any mention of a date or time for the 2.0 release.

So, it seems it is anybody's guess! :)

In the meantime, I'm already using the 2.0 firmware via the direct file download. So, all is good! :)

I'm usually the type to wait for the official version of stuff like this, but the manual download and install of 2.0 has been flawless for me.

I'm assuming it'll be out by July 11th at 8AM PST since that is the Apple time.

I am steeling myself for a long, frustrating evening of not being able to update to 2.0. I was hoping that the update would go live when they opened the doors in NZ, but I think that's been and gone and still no official update in sight.

I'll just set my alarm for early tomorrow morning.

AIM Application

2.0 Working great here!
I did find a problem with Aim if you typed the wrong Username and went to Password.
You had to go into iTunes, with the iPhone connected.
Click on the iPhone/Applications Tab/
Click on Sync Applications
Highlight Select Applications
Uncheck the AIM
Sync the iPhone
Then Check the AIM
And Sync again so it would reinstall the AIM application.
Once I had entered the wrong username and clicked on the space to enter the Password, it would NOT let me go back to the space and correct the Password.

I hope this helps someone.

But it goes on sale at Apple's flagship store at 8AM EDT. That's when I bet the switch gets flipped.

Or maybe -- just maybe -- whenever it's 8AM in England. 8AM in the first timezone where the iPhone Classic was legal... wherever that is.

What about France? Or any of the other countries East of the UK?

Presumably tomorrow as scheduled, though I'd suspect they're gonna want to fix MobileMe first

If iPhone 3G is out in New Zealand, and still no official update, then I guess they're holding off in North America until they open the doors tomorrow morning.

Also, I'm starting to get nervous that they won't put the software update out there until later in the day. I'm not sure why they would do this, but my mind is racing...

Look in iPhone system preferences. After you install certain apps they add settings in the main iPhone system preferences app at the very bottom. In systempreferences.app/Aim you can change your login info.

I think the key here is the time that it goes on sale in the first legit iPhone Classic country. Since that's when (in theory) people not new to iPhone will be upgrading/using/downloading the products.

because it IS the official release of the firmware. it is NOT the official "release" of the install process. there was no need for waiting

Don't bother waiting for the official 2.0, just get it, you won't regret it!

I managed to balls up my installation, and have lost all my music for three days (I'm away from my main computer) but the sheer joy of Super Monkey Ball and seemingly endless free apps...

I'm clearly an iPhone junky.

You can install the AOL Radio app and at least get music back... sorta. :)

Guys, I'm a bit confused at the moment. There's so much info floating about right now and I hope someone can give me a few pointers.

I have a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone and I'm dying to upgrade to 2.0. I don't mind losing the jailbreak but I need to keep it unlocked. What's the best thing to do at this early stage?

Cheers!

Not wishing to sound like a nit picking pain in the ass. But it's the UK, not ENGLAND, the UK is made up of England, Wales, Scotland and N Ireland. I guess like american sates. Us Welsh people get a bit pissed about being called England. It's kinda like the whole Canadian/American thing.

Again sorry, but i needed to vent it somewhere!!

Not our fault you get English teams in world events like the Olympics and the World Cup.

It is rather confusing to me, and my parents are British subjects even.

When was the last time you saw a soccer team from California or Florida play in the World Cup?
