Hi there,

my AW S4 is counting a ridiculous amount of stairs. I just found out about it, but it seems to have started last year in November.

Yesterday it counted stunning 74 stairs, while it should only have counted 4 stairs. It also seem to count while I am asleep, as it did last night (counted 5 stairs).

Is there anyone with the same problem? How did you fix it?
I'm out of warranty since last year October. Just had a call with the Apple hotline and they want to charge me 300€ for the repair service.
I think the price for the repair is way too high, given the fact that the current trade in program would give me a brand new AW S6 for just 310€!

I was originally planning to buy the next version of the Apple Watch (S7), but I'm not sure what to do now.
Having my watch fail that hard after a little more than 2 years is for that high price tag an absolute no go in my opinion.

What do you suggest?

Thank you!

have you tried an unpair and re-pair?
it should backup when you unpair, you can restore from that backup
This is fairly easy to do, and tends to fix a lot of issues.

Flights climbed uses the altimeter to help it figure out how far up or down you've gone, It's possible that hardware has failed. If so, the re-set won't help.

also as a result of using the altimeter, sometimes a big weather change can affect the accuracy of flights climbed. Doesn't explain a long term trend, But might explain why every so often you get a day that's really off.
