Couple of iphone 6 camera questions

1) with the curved edges, how will you use the timer?

2) I noticed that the focus "box" doesn't pop up unless you tap on the screen or taking a picture of a face. On my 5s the box always pops up (ios 7). Is this a ios 8 thing or the new focus system? You don't need the focus box?
