Okay.. So I am in a bit of a dilemma. I am going to be purchasing a new mac in a couple weeks and would like to see what macrumors thinks first.

    First Option:
15" 2.53 GHz Macbook Pro + Display later along the road

    Second Option:
$599 Mini + 17" Dell Studio (large screen for traveling, still maccin' at home ;))

    Third Option:
$1700 w/ rebate Macbook Air. The speed of an SSD sounds awesome, but I could always upgrade the HD when prices come down in Option # 1.

My high end budget is $1600-$1700. I would be using an edu or military discount on the mac, and the more you spend the more you save so...

I mainly web browse, iTunes, light gaming in Windows, do homework in pages etc. very "light" stuff IMO.

I would get the Macbook Pro. It will be great for your needs.

If you want the "Apple Desktop Experience," get the Mac Mini.

Yea, as you can see it was my 1st option, but I want to see what you guys think as well. I wish the 15" came in lower spec versions.. I really just want that 15" screen haha. What about buying refurb? Is there anything not currently in the refurb store that fits my needs?

The only problem with refurb is it really isnt that big of a savings after you include the selling of the ipod touch and student discount.

I think the 15in 2.53GHz Macbook Pro is fine. The student discount and Ipod touch deal is only for new Macs.

yea thats what I was saying. Refurbs seem like a good idea when you see the price, but with all the student discounts you arent really paying anything extra and you get a new computer.

The 17" Dell has the same screen resolution as the MBP. They are both 1440x900. So the dell doesn't really have a bigger screen.
