Use plastic. (merchants, too.)

Debate over.

BTW, I am surprised someone has not played the "green" card on this yet.

:D

Our notes increase by 7mm per denomination. They are brightly coloured too.

Always wondered why the US money was allowed to continue in it's current form for so long.
Oz money definitely has it right here. The differently shaped plastic windows are perfect for those with sight difficulties.

For those that have never seen them, here's a pic...

American dollars are just badly thought out rubbish in comparison.

It's totally reasonable that if we have a society that requires the use of paper money, that an aging and increasingly visually impaired population would need to find a way to make paper money work. Credit cards are great but some places won't accept them below certain minimums, or maybe you just want to get a soda from the vending machine...

And "bingo!" was his name-o.

Most world currencies already have measures to make their bills more distinguishable for the blind. I don't think it would be that hard for the US to redesign their currency to make it better.

I think they should give each bill a distinctive flavor and you'd have to lick them to figure out the denominations. Just blank pieces of paper that everyone has to lick before handing them over....:D

We'd be a nation of credit/debit cards and electronic transfers in only a few years....

I'm not blind, but having the strong colours helps sighted people too as you know at a glance what note is what. I hate having to check every single note of US currency before I give it to someone, as they all look the same! At least they are starting to add some colour (big ugly purple numbers on the $5 or $10), but it is still the same size and paper. Plastic washable money FTW.

And how would you pay the bills afterwards.

End of every month, I'd just have the money come out of my bank account.

And my pay check would go right into my bank account.

I'm not saying its a flawless solution, and I support the changing of dollar bill sizes based on value, but this would be my way to work around it, as of now.

I'm deaf. I certainly don't miss music - it's an optional part of life.

I do fully support this ruling. Money is an essential part of life - it's rather hard to survive without it. Almost every other currency in the world has made changes to give blind and people with vision problems equal access to using it.

Having 20 bucks and then being unable to use it with confidence cos you're blind is like having 20 bucks and being unable to use it in the shop as you're black and it's a white-only shop. That's an unacceptable situation, so why should it be different for blind?

There are not large numbers of fully blind people (and not all use braille) but there are huge numbers of people who have vision problems, and statistically speaking, you yourself are highly likely to have a vision problem at some point.

Credit cards are not a solution. Access to your own money in your own hand is a fundamental right.

seriously, how can people object to this?

making money easier for everyone to use is a good thing.
