anyone know of a way to always have the album art on the desktop. by this i mean on start up, even if nothing is playing

You can't have album art displaying without a song playing.

you could set it so that Coversutra opens with iTunes and tell OS X to open iTunes upon login. but like iMacBook said, without anything playing, it'll show the generic CD/cover image.
