Hi team, just swapped out the old spinner from a late 2009 imac with a SSD, but now the CPU fans blast full noise.

Note, this is NOT the HDD temp issue. I used an OWC sata temp adapter and iStat Pro is telling me it is the CPU.

Pretty sure I connected the temp next to the display port cable and there is a reading of CPU temp and fan speed.

Tried SMC reset and PRAM. Gann control software doesn't show it down. About to try OS install.

Any suggestions or tips from experience anyone?

Any/all help appreciated.

Pretty common issue. Can you try this software (on a trial) to see if it makes a positive difference: http://www.hddfancontrol.com/

EDIT: This one's free, but not sure if it automatically controls fans like the one above, or if you have to manually set the RPM. http://exirion.net/ssdfanctrl/

Tried these, but made no difference. Thanks for replying though.

It is the CPU fan not the HDD.

Anyone know the cause, not just wanting to treat the symptoms here.

Cheers in advance.

Arrrrrgh! Now all the fans are spinning at full noise.

What to do? Please help of you can.

isn't the OWC sata adaptor for 2011 models specifically?

I'm not sure... I swapped SSD's in a 2009, 2010 and 2011 and am just stuck with micro-managing them with fan controllers. I set the CPU fans just where I can barely hear them, along with the HDD and ODD fans and have yet to have any issues.
I've had all 3 of those models since new and they are all 3 still being used 5 days/week at work and never get powered off. No issues yet.

The adaptor is for the 09 imac:

Initially it was the CPU fan going crazy. After software update/install to El Capitan all the fans now blast full speed.
