My late 2008 MBP twice shut off on its own. This has never happened before. I reset the SMC and (as normal) the fans spun up, but they never spun down. At max for two days but CPU load is less than 10%. Fan speed utility reports my CPU is 0° and my fans are at 0 rpm. iStat nano only shows my hard drive temp. On top of that, my power sysem is completely buggered up. Under "System Power Settings" in System Report, neither my adapter OR battery show up, even though they both seem to work. Minus any sort of power level indication for the battery in the OS or green LEDs.

What on earth has happened to my machine??
