My CPU seems slower all of a sudden. Handbrake used to convert a 720p TV episode into Apple TV 2 format in about half an hour, now it's taking over an hour. Also, I tried to copy about 16GB of files from one folder into another and it took 15 minutes. Am I just imagining this problem? Are those normal speeds?

2011 13.3" MBP, i5 with 4GB.

How full is your disk? Disk access will start to slow down if there's 10% or less empty.

Is your disk OK? Launch Disk Utility and run 'Verify Disk'. Are there any errors?

Launch Activity Monitor and look at CPU usage. Is anything hogging the CPU?

Thanks for your reply! My disk is only about 50 per cent full so I don't think that could be the problem. But I did recently install the EFI update, and it seems that on my first reboot after installing the update the problems started. Now my system seems normal again. Maybe it was the EFI update. In any case thanks for your help, and things seem (crossing fingers) fine once again.
