Has anyone tried to upgrade the i5 in the base 2011 iMac to a 65W i7 processor? Apparently it works with models that had upgrade options (but the base model didn't), but I haven't heard definitively one way or the other if you can upgrade the base model.

Again, googling brought me to a thread with this quote that someone did with a 27inch (the same WILL apply to your machine though)
Just make sure:
A. It doesn't use a lot more W (+25% of original absolute max)
B. Doesn't run too much hotter
C. It's the right socket... I've seen people try to force the wrong socket CPU in, it's ridiculous/embarrassing.
If you have to ask "why?" on any of those points, then you should not be trying to change the CPU yourself.
