Im starting to learn about CPU usage and memory so Ive been monitoring my processes.
I noticed that while compressing a file with Ripit (which uses Handbrake) my CPU usage was reading 100%

Is that normal for file compressing?

(black '08 macbook, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2gb Memory)

Yes, as RipIt transcodes the MPEG-2 encoded video DVD footage to another format and codec (MPEG-4 variant), which is highly CPU intensive.
