As a quick way of discarding anyone who doesn't select "United States" perhaps?

I selected Canada and went to choose my province ,but the only option was American, states.

Why not just have United States as default no other country options?

Poor design, I guess. Seems like the "states" dropdown should disappear if you picked another country.
