I think for what its worth, I may put a screen protector on the ipad and use it until the next one comes out, $209 for a piece of glass on a product reaching EOL in 2-3months wont cut it for me.

If you are competent with heat guns and small connections you can change it out yourself. The iPad 2 is much more involved than the 1 since it requires heating up the adhesive to the point it gives.

You can buy the replacement screen/digitizer for $129 at etechparts.com

iFixIt.com has walk throughs for the replacement.

Someone recently mentioned that Apple will replace for $349, but that isn't an option for you since you don't have an Apple store.

IMHO the iPad 3 won't see the masses until June. But that is just conjecture based on A6 and Retina availability.

it was in a nice folding case, my bet is that my 2 yr old son walked over it after it fell or something because you can notice that the glass is warped :(

I am going to attempt to repair it, anyone know where can I buy an OEM or high quality digitizer? don't want to go the ebay route for cheap ones.

Is the glass really that fragile? I'm quite accident prone myself. Was it in a case?

Sorry this happened to you. :(

My grandson, while Skype-ing with his mother, thought it would be fun to let his mother see what it looks like when a dog eats. He put my iPad on the floor, then put dog food on top of the screen. My Labrador stood on it and ate the dog food. He took it out of it's case first so the case wouldn't get dirty.
Not a scratch on it, just had to clean it with a damp cloth.

He will never get unsupervised use of my iPad again !

On the other hand, I wish his mother had at least taken a screen shot of what it looked like on her side.

Good luck in repairing your iPad, let us know how it turns out.

I have had great success with the site I mentioned before with my iphone repairs.

https://www.etechparts.com

Not sure what model you have but I believe this would be what you want.

There is this one as well. I guess it is of lesser quality, based on the price. Looks to be the same.

:confused::confused: anyone else think this is a strange comment??

Not really strange, but definitely incorrect. I don't see a next release until Summer next year. Now maybe they do a bump earlier, but the next big upgrade isn't happening in 3 months...

Dude, I live in PR.. No problem..

You need to head to Guaynabo, to a store called iPhone Solutions. It's in a mini mall called Plaza Real.

They fix iPhone and iPad screens. I don't know how much the iPad will cost, but to give you an example, my iPhone 4 was dropped from a second floor and I thought it was dead. The back glass was shattered, and the aluminum band was bent

Nope! They fixed them both with genuine parts. Can't tell the difference from a new phone (except some light scratches in the camera lens). THe repair cost around $125 to $150 (can't remember exactly). I know they fix iPad screens, as I saw a guy walk in with your exact same problem.

Go.. get your screen fixed.. No use in not enjoying an otherwise perfectly good iPad. Buena Suerte!

Folow up to last post.. Here's their website:

Under "Servicios" you'll see they repair iPads..:)

Ignore everyone else's advice

Apple's policy regarding accidental damage to iOS devices is to replace them ONCE, for free, no questions asked. Seeing as your iPad 2 is less then a year old, it is still under AppleCare. Your iPad must be brought into an Apple Store, but surely you have a friend or family member living near one that you could ship your iPad to.

Also, just to clear up any confusion. When Apple does charge you for OOW screen replacement, they replace the entire device, not just the screen. They charge 50% of the original cost. Having the entire product replaced at 50% retail is often a better option than just having the screen replaced by a third party. Also, the replacement comes with a 90 day warranty.

Where did you come up with this one time free replacement policy? It's up to the genius whether they will replace it for free or not. Also replacement unit comes with balance of the original warranty or 90 days whichever is longer.
