I cracked both the glass screen and the LCD and Apple quoted me £230 before deciding to do it for free.

They also replaced the battery for me when it dropped to 75% earlier than it should have done.

Why did they decide to do it for free?

For those who can't get it repaired for free, as I posted in another thread - what I did, just bought the whole another laptop, took the screen from it and will be selling everything else for parts. Requires more time - yes, but in the end you can end up with a free screen assembly or even make money depending on how cheap you managed to buy everything. Worst case scenario - you will still end up with far smaller overall loss than buying just the screen.

All of the above doesn't apply for 11" screens, those can be bought for a really reasonable price.

The LCD on the Macbook Air is actually not replaceable unless you replace the whole top lid. Getting the bezel off is not an easy task. The rubber gasket is also a pain. Just buy a new lid on eBay and your good to go.

Except that this lid costs more than half the price of the whole laptop.
You could as well just write "buy a new laptop and you're good to go". :)

Do it yourself if you're half competent with a screwdriver. You'll need to buy a pentalobe screwdriver to remove the bottom case ($5), and the only other screwdriver you'll need is a T8 for the hinges. If you've never done it before, it's a half hour to 45 minute repair. If you're competent, you can do it in about 15 minutes.

If you post the last 4 digits of your serial number we can give you the exact part number of the screen you need to buy :).

MacBook Air 11.5'' model A1370

Thx!

Just to know, so that we can learn from this incident - how exactly did you crack the screen?

Or how do people crack their Air screens in general? Dropping it will crack the screen?

Please share.
[doublepost=1467582070][/doublepost]I fumbled MBA and it was hardly one foot away from the ground, fell in the carpet, not a hard blow at all, touched the ground and the screen went blank. Hardly got it five days ago. Really don't know what will happen

In January my macbook pro finally would not take a charge anymore, after buying a new cord. I ordered a new Macbook pro from Apple, refurbiished. It arrive DOA with a question mark. I took it to the Apple store and somehow I ended up with a an AIR. 2 weeks later I am typing away and it was like a bullet hit the lower right screen and eventually took over the whole screen. I bought extended warrenty, I always do. Not covered. I had to pay $500 to fix it. I am very sure I did not cause this as this laptop in mostly on my desk, AKA bed! This has been very upsetting to say the least. I have been with apple since 1985, what is going on with this company??? What can you do??
