Alright so I am planning on purchasing some Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers from Craigslist for $80, which is a pretty good deal on some nice speakers.

I am only 17, so I am also going to bring my 19 year old brother. The guy is going to set up the speakers so that I can test them out at his home and see how well they work and stuff.

Is there anything I need to look out for or any other precautions I need to do? This is the first time dealing with Craigslist.

He can set them up if you ask him to, I wouldn't buy a set I couldn't test first. I buy and sell on CL often and the best thing you can do as a seller is ask for cash only and as a buyer try to test out the item the best way you can, that is if you are comfortable meeting at his home since it would be hard to test out speakers in a public meeting place.

Well

I have bought numerous things from CL right in peoples homes, strictly because I needed to. a 32" flatscreen, a 46" flatscreen, a 24" imac, etc... Cant really test those out at the coffee shop. Just be sure to bring your older brother, and be weary.

If it seems sketchy, get out of there. Better safe than sorry!

OP: You're doing the right thing by not going alone. I would also recommend bringing a multimeter to test the speakers, if you can't bring something else to try them with.

I buy and sell on Craigslist a lot. I usually ask their names before even considering doing business with them. You can tell a lot more than you think by their name, I'm not going to go into details because of the imminent flaming.
The way people talk helps, as well. If they're like "u comin 2 get da speakas?", get the hell out of there.
Also, when you get the address, look at it on Street View.

Ha, reminds me of a CL deal I almost did. This guy from a sketchy part of town wanted me to come to him to buy a MacBook for $500. No way in hell was I going into that part of town with $500 in cash so I told him he had to meet me downtown. I got text messages from him as he was coming saying "Ima be dere in wun minut". Got a funny feeling, then he shows up, shows me the laptop and the thing is obviously stolen from a school district...

Great advice. I use craigslist very often for many things. Always test and always use cash.
