I tried embedding this question in the threads about the new releases, but it's pretty clear it will just be buried in the other kinds of discusssions.

If anyone has updated to iTunes 8.0 and found that it stopped their third party applications from crashing, I would be eager to see their report here. It seems possible that it will fix the crashes, given that downgrading from 7.7.1 to 7.7 does cure the crashes. That seems to imply that iTunes is the main issue, but it would be useful to know for sure before too many of us down-graders try it.

    TIA!

To answer my own question, I uninstalled all apps, updated to iTunes 8.0. Things seemed fine for a awhile, but after loading one updat directly to the phone, all third party application are now crashing.

It may be poor form, but I am going to put this as a new post at the end of the thread. Maybe I can save some others some grief.

    Apps working again

    I wouldn't say that.

Yesterday all 3rd party apps in my iPhone 3G refused to work, for some reason. I just installed iTunes 8, synced the phone and voila; everything was back to normal. I gather the glitch was iTunes 7.7.1 messing up with my credentials at iTunes store.

To me that remedy was not a joke, even if it brought a smile on my face. Thanks, Jobs et al.:)

I meant in the fact that they continue to update and put things out that are buggy. They give us the new Itunes 8 but yet they dont give us the update for the iphone which fixes bugs that shouldnt have even been there in the first place till friday. Which means I cant restore my phone with this version or if it was working install any apps, but i can buy A BRAND NEW NANO!!!

Crevice...Try and Re-Authorize your iTunes account.

Just click "Store" "Authorize Computer" in iTunes. It will not count against your total 5 authorized computers and your computer "may" have become de-authorized during your upgrade.

Once you authorize it again, shut it down, re-boot and see if that works.

    Good Luck

Got your point :) Let's just hope Friday brings some good news to you (and to millions of other iPhoners) as well.

I'll post my progress with 2.0.2 + 8.0. So far future looks scintillating...

It was "Re-Authorize" not deauthorize. Glad you got it to work...be prepared for it to say that you need to restore it after you restore it though. If it does, and i know you will totally hate this...you will need to restore as new phone. It has happened to me 3 times since 2.0 came out and my fix to get away from it was to stop using the App store on the iPhone and only use iTunes to purchase/update Apps.

Good Luck...I will monitor this thread if you need any more help.

Thankfully the back up worked, because I did a full back up before I went to bed last night. Now I am just putting my music and crap on, hoping that my phone can make it till friday. I actually installed the app from Itunes, and it still crashed on me. It's the second time I have installed via itunes with a crash.

Yes. That is correct. The iPhone firmware release on Friday is purported to fix this issue. I'm not going to be the "search police", but the various solutions and best practices to avoid the problem have been discussed ad nauseum in the forum.

Briefly, the ones that work for me (and there are many more theories and practices), to avoid the problem don't updates app from the mobile app store. To "fix" the problem, try installing a single app from iTunes or do a restore.
