I just received the used iPhone X I bought last week, and the condition is fine – apart from the screen, which seems to pop out a bit. When I push it back in, it makes a creaking sound. Is that a problem? Will it impact water resistance? I guess the only way to fix it is to replace the entire screen? Apart from that problem, the screen is perfect, no scratches whatsoever.

Here's a video showing the problem:

That looks extremely problematic. It shouldn’t be doing that. You sure the battery isn’t swelling?

Yeah, a swollen battery might be the cause. The seller offers a full refund if I send the phone back, I‘ll probably take that offer.

Looks like it was bent. Look down that edge, your images shows a hump in the stainless edge. If it is going to bend, the SIM card area is a prime spot. I would send it back for sure.

The Face ID works or not. If not just resend it to the seller. There are people who changed the original display(broken) to compatible one.

Everything works flawlessly, including Face ID. I think a swollen battery is the most likely cause, but I don‘t want to change the battery just to find out it was something else, so sending it back is probably the best option anyway.

Ordered a „like new“ refurbished iPhone X from a dealer now. Was more expensive, but this time hopefully everything‘s okay.

Online dealer?

Yep, ordered from Janado.de. Don't know them, but they do have some quite good reviews online, and the price was not as outrageous as some other dealers (though €750 shipped isn't super cheap either). Buying locally isn't an option unfortunately, since I live too far away from any shops which carry used phones.

Usually ‘creaking’ screens or on certain parts of the display when touching it, is a result of the adhesive is partially separated/not fully even. At least from my experience, it seems to be a contributor.
