I am in a pickle! I only have my Powerbook G4 12' to make a bootable linux usb, I don't have any idea how to do this, is their a transferable program that'd do the same in the likes as "rufus, echter", I am trying to put Ubuntu 18.04 on an usb within Mac Os 10.4. Thank you! This is for use for another computer to keep clear, the computer I have is having issues so making a usb would help me tremendously. Thank you again.

There's DD, but I've heard it has limited success. You could always give it a go though. Be extremely careful though, as DD can destroy data if you use it incorrectly. Use diskutil list to determine the path to the drive.

sudo dd if=path/to/image of=path/to/drive should be good

Look here for more info:

Really? Where did you hear that?

I've used DD within OS X endlessly to create bootable USB drives so that I could install Linux and Windows on Netbooks that lack internal optical devices. :D
IIRC @z970mp has had issues and has reported @Dronecatcher has as well. I've never had issues though :D

Of course, their main struggle is getting OF to see the flashed drive. So you don't use it with OF systems, your mileage may differ. I've used it almost exclusively with OF systems and have never had issues though.

I’ve been able to see the usb drive in OFW, but never been able to boot from it on my Clamshell. I strongly believe this is because the flash drive chipset is too new, I really do think if I had some usb flash drive from 1999 it would work.

Yeah, so far the only OF machine I have been unable to boot from USB on is my iBook. That could be due to its lack of dual channel USB ports though. I'm not entirely clear on what those do but I've read their required for booting from USB, at least on OF machines.

I think you might get a kick out of this. This is what my special iBook Clamshell compatible usb drive looks like. I ended up just tearing the thing apart to make it fit.
