iOS Create a "Slide to unlock" UI element

Ive seen a few apps that have implemented their own custom version of the slide to unlock interface element.

I dont see it documented anywhere in the API. How would you go about creating these?

Use a bunch of your own custom views/graphics/animations to achieve the same effect.
