Hi all, I'm waiting for my new vega 56 to arrive before i can upgrade to mojave on my 5.1 work horse.
As I'm putting a new SSD in for it, I was wondering if I can install the new system and apps using my macbook pro and then when the card arrives install the drive at the same time as I put the card in and away we go.
However i know i need to do the firmware thing on my 5.1 as I'm currently on MP51.0084 and I also wondered if the drivers for my card are installed with mojave whatever gpu you have installed.
So is this going to work?

Also on a second note, I see alot of posts about Nvme cards and wondered if i should be getting one of these for either the system drive or my user files. Is that the case? I'm under the impression it'll be faster for work?
Oh and lastly should i be doing all of this with opencore?! Even tho i'm not sure what that is really........
Thanks for your help!

Do a favour to yourself and do all the required firmware upgrades needed, it's a lot easier to do it right now than later. Read the first post of the thread below to know what you have to do:

NVMe support requires that you upgrade your Mac Pro BootROM to a version equal or later than 140.0.0.0.0, you can't overcome it. Throughput is a lot faster with PCIe drives, no doubt.

OpenCore is a boot loader and is only needed for Catalina support or when you need to hardware accelerated video encoding/decoding with Mojave. This is the OpenCore thread:
