Hi everyone.

I have a completely different question.

Do any of you happen to know how to set up a torrent without needing a tracker?

The reason is that I have some photos from a class reunion and I'd like to share them. I've experimented a bit, but it's not working. I think I managed to do it once with Azureus (now Vuze), but the problem is that you need the exact same program. Back then, it was for the archives of a singing club. Can you recommend a program or do you have instructions?

Thank you!

Seems weird to let torrent apps…from who knows where…access your computer if I'm understanding correctly.

If you'd have just asked if there's a good way to share the files I'd be recommending uploading and sharing via the mega.nz website.

"Send this newly created .torrent file to your friends and they will be able to download the files you are sharing using any BitTorrent client."

But I can't open it on macOS Tahoe. Any ideas?
For both qbittorrent-5.0.5.dmg and the qBittorrent app, you have to go into System Settings – Privacy & Security and click on Open Anyway.
"open an app that hasn’t been notarized or is from an unidentified developer"

You can verify the dmg on ttps://www.virustotal.com/

Wow! Wonderful! That all helped a lot! Thank you so much! You have to think of that first.

Okay. It works, but where exactly can I create an own torrent? Please see attachment.

:EDIT:

Oh, there it is! Man, how stupid can you be? Honestly! It says "Torrent Creator" and you don't get it! Ouch! Just like in another post here.

By the way, another wow! Because the application strikingly reminds me of Vuze, formerly Azureus. Do you remember that animated graphic with the sending and receiving? qBittorent reminds me of it. Wow! I think we're meant to be. I hope it lives up to its promises.

And to tell the whole story and explain how I got into torrents: The then-chairman of the aforementioned men's choir told me that if the digital club archive, which I had set up and managed, was only stored on one hard drive, it wouldn't be truly accessible to anyone, and he was worried that the data would eventually become unreadable due to potential hardware failures. So I suggested that the file-sharing network via torrents would be a good option, but that wasn't really practical 10 or 15 years ago. The original idea behind it was that a "server" would send the correct data to all torrent file owners, and once that data had arrived for them, everyone else could also be supplied with the correct data, so that the club archive would not digitally die out.
