Creating a DVD

Hello All,
I recently received a movie via a file folder. I'm trying to burn this into a viewable dvd. ideas?

How to burn a video DVD in [URL="http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html"]Burn[/URL]:

example below uses an .avi file, but it can also be applied to an .mp4 or .mov file​

If iDVD accepts the format the file is in, as iDVD does not accept that many formats and codecs to begin with.
