Creating a LAN between Mac and PC

I need to creat a locan network connection between my Mac Mini and my PC Laptop.

I have a router and lots of lan cables...The mac is connected to the router and so is the laptop pc because thats where my interent is routed...But I cant see my mac from my pc and I need to send some files and it would be nice to have a LAN connection between my 2 computers..

I have no idea how to make it so they actually see eachother...
