Creating a new email account now

I've given my Dad a Mac Pro G5 (powerPC chip) and he's finally agreed to ditch his hotmail account. With mobile me now gone (for new users) and icloud a way off (and his mac not being able to run Lion) is there anyway to get him a .mac or .me asddress without picking up a mobile me box that stores still have in stock?

No there is no way of signing up for one until iCloud launches. Even purchasing a box won't work as Apple are no longer activating codes and tell you to request a refund (http://www.me.com/activate)

if you have ios5 on your device, you can sign up for a @me.com addy thru the icloud setting.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say his Dad isn't a developer with access to the iOS5 beta. 😉

Yeah, we're still getting over the "command key" "what this one?" "no that's control" thing. Which happens every. day.
