Creating a Partition on External HDD

EDIT: I moved this from the "Mac Basics and Help" forum - thought it fit better here.

In Mac OSX, how do I create a partition on an unused part of an external hard drive? Half of my 250 GB hard drive is an NFTS partition, and I would like to format the other half for Mac. I'm new to Mac, however, so I'm lost on where to look.

BTW, if this is a repeated topic, I'm sorry, I tried searching the forums but could only find stuff on boot camp.

Any help is much appreciated!

I'm fairly certain Disk Utility (in Utilities) should be able to do this.

Found Disk Utility - but now I don't know how to create a partition on my external HDD w/o erasing the already existing Window partition. Is there a help file on this anywhere within OSX?

You cannot create a new partition with Disk Utility w/o erasing your current partition scheme (and therefore your data).

You have to use 3rd party ($pay) software.

User be warned, I would never trust my data to any app that changes the partition on the fly.

iPartition & VolumeWorks are 2 of the 3rd party partition editors.
