Rather than go to ACTION, NEW FOLDER, I want to know if there is a way to highlight a select number of items in a folder and thru some command, create a folder/subdirectory for those items. Any tip or trick you know of?

SHIFT COMMAND N only creates a new folder. I was hoping for a shortcut that would put the highlighted items into the folder and then allow me to name it.

The ^ is CTRL not Shift.

The above shortcut: CTRL + COMMAND + N does exactly what you are asking.

Just click "File" in the menu bar when Finder is selected.
