Creating a VPN then streaming to AppleTV using it

Hi Guys.

Is it possible to create a VPN with your iDevice, then off that device, stream things onto a AppleTV (which is connected to your VPN)?

My mate doesn't have wifi but wants to get an AppleTV

Do you mean use the hotspot feature on an iPhone to connect to it as a WiFi access point basically?

yes it is

i connect in my home network via VPN on LTE/3g, and I have access to the airplay menu, it works but just for pictures any video drops to much to be usable, not sure why would you want to do that

do you mean if the hotspot is created, that the wifi the hotspot creates, is not quick enough to be able to stream content to your apple tv for example?
