Creating an image on new MacBooks

Hello all,
I'm trying to make an image out of a new MacBook. I have an external HD that has an operating system in it where I could put in my image files. I use NetBoot to create image files.

Here's what's happening. I plugged the external HD to the new MacBook using a mini USB to USB cable and it detects the external HD fine. So I restarted the laptop, hold the Option key and the external HD appears. But when I try to run on the external HD, it would restart. It does not let me go in to the external HD. I've been doing this to other old models like iMac and older MacBooks and they work fine. It seems like the newer models does not work.

I have not tried USB-to-USB cable yet but it shouldn't matter, does it?

You need GUID partiton map.

Also make sure that bootable drive has a version of the operating system on it that will run on that model.
