Really love this new feature in iOS 27. I just created a Costco card and it created it from a picture I took of the physical card. The software brought in: member name, member number, member since, member status, and bar code.

I haven’t tried using this yet, but I’m thinking it should work just fine. That the bar code reader at the store should be able to read the bar code.

Has anyone run into any issues around creating/using digital wallet cards?

I've heard that people haven't been able to take a picture of their card and use that digitally (pre-iOS 27), but I’m not sure if it's the machine that can detect that or if the worker catches you. If it does work, I wonder if Costco will re-think their strategy and allow it to be added natively.

Supposedly, they didn't want to add it to Apple Wallet in order to prevent card sharing. They want you to use their version of the digital membership card with a rotating QR code. Their digital card can be added as a widget, which I've put on my widget page and pull it up from there…but it would be nice if we could use Apple Wallet instead.

Just a heads up, as a Costco employee, the direction from Corporate is that under no circumstances are we to scan a picture or digital wallet version of your membership card. The only digital version we’re allowed to use is the QR code from the Costco App. This is to prevent card sharing.

Edit: This is also the terminology of the member terms and privileges that all Costco members agree to.

“You will be required to scan your membership card at the front door scanner when entering any Costco warehouse and show your membership card when checking out at a payment register. Bar codes, photos or other copies are not acceptable”

It will work as long as you are using self check-out. The barcode works just fine, but Costco employees will not let you use it that way. I know this from experience.
