Creating Icons?

Hey everyone.

I don't know if this is possible, but I was just wondering, if I were to create some custom icons in Photoshop (to use on an alias file for example), how would I go about using them, and what file type would I have to save it as?

Hey, thanks. I've been looking for an icon maker for Mac. It also accepts psd allowing for transparent backgrounds.
