    Hi,

We have a requirement to create a Mac package in a Windows box. The package can be in .mpkg format or .dmg. However, it should be installable via a network share.

While .mpkg can be created on Windows (just put in the right folder structure), this cannot be installed via a network share. So, I want to know if dmg can be created on a Windows box. I could use C/C++ or Java for it, but let me know of any 3rd party libraries for the same.

Any other ideas of packaging in welcome.

    Thanks,
    Anand

Apple has started delivering their mpkgs in the form of xar archives. You can probably get some sort of application that will xar up the folder for you, assuming you can create the proper content for installation.

Be aware, however, that Mac users are generally not happy to "install" programs, most of us prefer a thing we can just drag where we want it.

Thanks. Did you happen to know of any library that could be used in windows for compressing the mkpg into xar format? I searched through the net and didnt find one

Is it practical to do it by hand? You can just create the mpkg and then use an application such as 7-zip to put it into the archive.
