Hi,

2,5 years after the introduction of Passbooks, I'm still waiting to use the technology for the first time. Yes, I know some people use it, but I live in Europe, and over here it has never been adopted by local merchants. Apple missed a huge opportunity here.

Now, I'm wondering if I could create my own passbooks (e.g. Store Loyalty cards that use geolocation to show up in the store). I'm currently using the app FidMe but its Passbook support is lacking.

Then I had a look at SelfPass which let me create Passbooks but without geolocation...

Am I missing something?

No, unfortunately it doesn't. This is a platform for merchants to create passbooks, and you have to pay for it. It's not a solution for customers to make electronic copies of the zillion loyalty cards one has to carry around. It's weird nobody thought of this for Passbook.

Are you a business or a customer? Because if you're the latter I'm not sure if your local coffee shop will just accept a loyalty card you made yourself with a passbook generator

Depends on the barcode scanner they use. I created my on Passbook loyalty cards for things like Jersey Mike's, PepBoys, Staples etc and they all work fine.

With FidMe you also make a digital copy of plastic loyalty cards and shops do accept it over here.

However, some cashiers cannot scan your iPhone screen and some do. If you're in a store where they cannot, they need to type the long number by hand... But they do :)

The problem is, I want to use Passbook the way it was intended: with geolocation. I'll have a look at PassSource and see if that works.

You want the app StoCard. Allows you to add store loyalty cards and if the store also includes the ability to store data in Passbook, the option shows up to allow this. See below:

I don't have the Add to Passbook icon in my Stocards. Do you have to enable something?
