Is it as good as the normal AT&T 4g lte data service for internet ? Plus phone calls and text of course?

I heard horror stories about them and good things. Would try them first but not sure how for cheap or free.

The best people to ask these questions are your neighbors and your co-workers.

The quality of cellular networks can vary quite a bit depending on location. I am not talking state to state, or city to city, but from one neighborhood to the next, and sometimes from one street to the next.

You are going to get a bunch of different POVs on a forum like this, and every one of them could have a totally different experience than what you would get in the places you spend the most of your time.

The roaming is a little less than ATT Prepaid. Whether that is important depends on where you live and travel. Speed limits depend on what plan you are.

But if the plan you choose suffices, even a limit of 8mb/sec is more than usable. I used it for awhile a couple years ago to get a discount on an iPhone SE and it was fine. The main reason I didn't stay with them was by the time I added a hotspot, which was extra at the time, it wasn't the best deal for me. Don't use it much, but nice to have the option if my ISP is down a short period.

I had them for close to 4 yrs and I got the same signal as AT&T’s had. My work is in the back areas, away from the city, and T-Mobile and sprint were useless. But I always had signal with cricket wireless, same with Verizon. Even road tripping I had signal but those I traveled with on T-Mobile had none. I left cricket because I found a Verizon mvno that offered unlimited internet for $25. So I get the best signal and unlimited data.

Cricket is owned by ATT, so coverage should be indentical between them and ATT Prepaid. I know when I switched from Cricket to ATT Postpaid, my network speeds increased by about 75% on the same phone since I just had to remove the Cricket SIM and replace it with the new ATT SIM...

Cricket is fine but the throttling speeds are super slow compared to AT&T postpaid and prepaid. We moved from Cricket to Verizon prepaid and it's about 50x faster for a little less per month.

Same thing exactly for me. We actually increased from 5GB to 6GB / month and pay about $10 less with Verizon. Coverage is also much better on road trips.

Yep, I think Cricket was a good option a few years ago but there are just so many better MVNO options out there today.

Visible is also a good choice if you can find 3 other folks to join a plan with. $25/month for unlimited on Verizon.

Everyone who had super slow Cricket speeds which tier were you on if you remember?

Also what is the best cheap way to try cricket wireless before switching ?

I think the speeds are capped the same, no matter the GB plan you are on. I never got more than 5mbps with Cricket.

There a new plan out with no capped speeds.
Except that they are still at the bottom of the AT&T prioritization list. And where I'm located that seems to be most of the time. Best advice spend some $ and try it on a spare phone if you can before you port a number.

Find which service is going to be the best in your area among AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile and pick an MVNO that uses their towers. There is no one that will have any better service that the host

True.

Good idea!

What the cheapest way to do this ?

I had cricket for a few years and never had a problem with service. Cricket has an app as well to manage your account. Moved because I got a great deal from another carrier for two phones and cricket could not match it. Miss crickets great signal and thinking of going back once I am able to unlock my phones
