Has anyone here actually bought the game? If so what are your thoughts?

I also pre ordered but then remembered to stick to my principals which include waiting at least 72 hours post launch to buy a game.

Reviews are a bit mixed and maybe premature. The tension point seems to be that gamers don't know what the game is or what to expect of. E.g looks like an rpg but isn't. It souls like?

I think it might take a few weeks of prolonged gameplay for there to be a consensus on what lens to look at the game through.

I've owned the game for 4 days and have already clocked 25 hours of gameplay. 😍😍😍😍 I think I will clock 300-500 hours. The width and depth of things to do is mega.

It's utterly incredible, delightful and surprising. They have done a terrific job borrowing elements from various franchises but also incorporating new mechanics, varying missions and utterly gorgeous scenery.

Impressively, despite the complexity, I have not encountered any bugs. VRAM and GPU usage is insanely low given the eye candy, effects and physics.

Honestly...it's the Zelda game I wish Nintendo always made but haven't. I mean that with all the respect in the world to Pearl Abyss, Crimson Desert's creators. The landscape and exploration is so vast and you don't feel like it's a chore, you really do feel like you could find anything and everything around the next bend. Also the tasks never feel like errand boy stuff. It really feels like you're part of the world and that even the least of tasks is helping you learn more about it. Seriously one of the best games I've played in years. I'm truly blown away. Other things that I love is that the devs are on top of all feedback. They're constantly pushing out updates for things players are coming across that need addressing. It's impressive how fast they're taking care of it. And there's NO micro transactions or dlc nonsense. You buy the game, you get the whole game. It's been a LONG TIME since I've played a game that you buy once and enjoy it. I've been playing it on the regular playstation 5.

I loved the sky islands in tears of the kingdom and some, not all of, crimson desert reminds me of it.

The landscape isn't boring to explore because it feels hand crafted and highly varied. Other games sometimes feel like the studio designed one area and then used the same assets on repeat.

The lack of markers on the maps for chests and other things mean that resources are random. Likewise towns or buildings don't always appear on maps until you are veey close to them. A good incentive for sniffing around.

I was climbing through the mountains randomly, just searching around and then I noticed a fire lit cave opening off in the distance that you totally wouldn't have even noticed in the daytime. It's crazy details like that which really draw me into the game. Then when I marked it on the map, I saved the game and turned it off, I came back the next day to play and it removed my marker for it. Reminds me of the old games when they gave you an included poster map of the world and it was up to you to manually mark things on it where you found stuff. Awesome game for sure

It's such a stark alternative to the Ubisoft games I'm used to. I love just exploring and continuing to spot something odd in the distance that I want to explore.

I climbed a mountain for the heck of it, happened to find a ruined fort, happened to find a secret crawl space and found a neat cloak. Would have been so easy to miss it and I love that.

Are any of you running this on a Mac? I'm wondering if I can crank down the graphics on my M4 Air and have a decent experience while out on the road.

Good stuff. I am 40 hours into the game and not bored yet. It's truly a breath of fresh air. Some quests can be challenging or frustrating but they are different and not reptetive.

The introduction of the difficulty setting has massively made the game even more enjoyable. Some bosses were crazy hard on normal if you don't play eldenring or souls like games.

That is what was holding me back. I hate boss fights.
I don’t mind bosses but I am an rpg player. I want to chill and vibe. You can mix it up. Play normal mobs at normal and bosses on easy. Some do it the other way around.

This weekend I am playing the game on my Steamdeck with DLSS 4.5 because my of needs a new PSU. It’s such a well optimised game.

That's my plan when a boss feels impossible. I've hit one that seemed too hard but I like how I was able to easily shelve that fight for later and try again eventually with better gear.

That's what I love about the game design. It's very well throughout out. Easy to exist a boss. If you die you can retire with all your food and there are palmer pills too. The ability to heal whilst taking hits is good too and so it ability to upgrade skills mid missions.

Super flexible game that allows you to play it in different ways. It might be overwhelming at first but eventually you appreciate the painstaking effort they have put into the game. They keep pushing updates almost every 2-3 week too!

Exactly!!! When you are in an adventure game where you can't proceed until you finish a boss fight you start to hate it's just the worst. I just want to explore and have fun.
