I've already purchased and trademarked both marks - but can't decide which one to use for the rebranding !

The new logos are similar, with one having a swoosh , and the other two dots . I think they both look great and fresh, and immeasurably superior to the old logo , which looks terrible compared to the new logos.

The new logos as you can see are clean, simple, scalable, works well in black and white, and somewhat distinctive.

Give me your opinions on which is the better logo - the swoosh, or the dots version ?

For disclosure, the dots aren't simply decorative -- they mean something.

In Arabic, the letter y, which is called "ya",is spelled with two dots under it.

Here is "Libya" written in Arabic script, and where the two dots are derived from -

The company is a tour operator that organizes escorted cultural and desert adventure tours to Libya.

We're getting rid of the OLD logo, it's up on the site ( www.libyaexpeditions.com), and below. The reason is the current logo is not very scalable and doesn't work well in black and white -

    Old logo is awful.

    New logo is superb!

Very flexible and modern. The Dots version I think I like a bit better because I identify it more with Arabic. But they're both good imo.

    Well done

if you could take the clip art off the old logo

or replace it with something less detailed, I think it would look great.

I rather like the current type treatment. But the clip are with it is all wrong.

Sorry, dont really care for the "new", your "b" looks like a "6" no matter how hard I try to convince myself that it isnt.

The problem is even without the graphic, the current logo is hard to read at smaller sizes and the font is too thin.

    We know, we tried.

    The graphic isn't clipart

I see that "expeditions" is hard to read

on your site, but I have not issue with the "Libya" part.

I dont expect any smaller than whats on the web would be common use?

The 'L' and the 'i' kind of run together, too, so it sort of reads U6ya ... which isn't ideal. I'd certainly break those two characters up, and maybe straighten the upright on the 'b' ...?

i like the logo on the left. the one on the right has an odd placement for "expeditions" at the top.

only two things i am unsure of - the letter "b" could be [IMG] instead, and expeditions might be a bit hard to read when it's very small.

I think the bottom left and bottom right are superb. The comments suggesting that you can't make out the word are not relevant as it's quite clear what is meant to be said.

You should potentially think about using both logos alternately depending on the media you're printing on? For example your business card may be dark in colour and letterhead light, so variation might be useful in those circumstances. It also seems to be popular with companies like santander using multiple-colour logos in 2004 - 2007!

    I like the two-dotted one because it also becomes a smiley-face. :)

In all seriousness, I think if the placement of the "expeditions" can be rethought in the second one, I'd go with it.

I'm with several of the other comments.

The b and the a almost look like a different font, because the uprights (left side of b, and the right side of the a), aren't 'more vertical' like the L i and y.

Other than that, they all work for me.

Assuming nothing can be changed, number one is the clear choice for me. The placement of "expeditions" makes it much more legible at smaller sizes, and it's visually a LOT cleaner without the two (rather superfluous, despite intentions) dots. Keeping small sizes in mind, I think these two points really rule out number 2.

Dots....it kind of plays off visual elements of some arabic letters that have dots under.

I too have the b coming into my eyes as a 6 even though I know its not. Changing it would make it look better.

Ugh, you must be joking. The old logo needs mad anti-aliasing.

I love both the new ones. Didn't see the '6' thing until someone pointed it out.

When the page opened I thought the old version was the logo you wanted a critique on! That's terrible.

Yours are very nice, the one with the two dots is beautiful. Really nice feel and colours - good job there.

You have gotten lots of conflicting advice here. Personally, I would post this on Typophile. There is a whole group of type designers on there who have experience with both arabic and roman calligraphy.

I like the second set (with the dots) a lot, but I'm afraid it might read like "Expeditions Libya." I think that's actually a really cool name in-and-of-itself, but I don't think it's what you're going for...

I'm not a graphic designer, I'm an illustrator so this is purely opinion and subjective based on what I believe to be effective design. I say go with the version with the dots, it definitely ties in the Arabic language aspect into the logo. The "B" is a point of contingency with me though. Maybe if you broke the loop at the bottom (like it is on the original logo) it would read quicker and easier as a "B" as now all I can see is a "6" as well. I mean, I get that the word is "Libya", it's clear in that sense. But I would hate to have any possibility for confusion or any reason for the word to not read as intended the first time, every time. Hope that helps some.

I agree about the b/6 thing. If it wouldn't be too much work I would change it. The b you used in the original one looked fine.
Other than that, I think the new ones are a big step forward.

    The hub of stupidity
The logo shouldn't bring back traumatic memories of HS algebra class with "U6ya"

It shows promise, but as a final step the edges of the words definitely neeeeeed smoothed over. (I like the one on the far right the best)

I would suggest the either of the last two to the right. The leg of the 'y' is visually much better then the first 2 designs. My only objection is the letter spacing between the L and i. The L is to far to the right of the i, in my opinion.

    Hope this helps.

    It sucks. No offense.

Do some research on Libya before you start on a logo.

The original logo is really bad btw. Stay away from using it at all.

I think the best of them is on the far right. I am only a Graphic Design student tho....
