Good point and I lean more towards a supply chain breakdown than anything else. From what I have seen you cannot get the old iMac any more and the market is becoming less saturated everyday.

My bet is low yields due to optical lamination problems. Its difficult to do it on an iPad but imagine trying to do it on a 21/27 inch display!

Yes, i bet they announced a computer they can´t build in volume. We can be sure of this since they missed their release window by... uh wait, they still have 16 days left to make it "in time".

Lol, I'm loving people's responses about why it's still not too late.

it could be just something severe and Apple are keeping quite about it, remember one little thing could recall the entire supply

For the people with money burning a hole in their pockets awaiting for the release or shall I say pre-order of the mighty iMac like I am, the bummer thing is the wait only grows for the folks wanting a BTO version. I can just imagine and see the 3-4 week wait time from date of order. So I guess for us BTO people the wait to have a unit in our hands can and or will most likely be by Jan. or late Jan. depending on how far in the orders begin in Dec.

Apple has built a reputation on the "here's our new device, go buy it on Friday (or preorder it)".

The fact people haven't been able to get an iMac for weeks signals a breakdown in planning, supply chain management, or production yield...or a combination of them. Whether or not it's mid or late November, it's uncharacteristic for this company to reveal a product with no defined preorder date and a vague ship date.

For those curious, the last time you could preorder a Mac was.. well, I don't know, but it was prior to 2002.

Announcing the product and shipping it later is rare, but not unheard of. They kind of painted themselves into a corner by leaving the Sandy Bridge iMac linger so long and apparently not having a Plan B simple hardware refresh on standby.

Something I'm curious about is whether they're trying to avoid repeating the rMBP launch (available "today" but those without fast fingers have 4 week shipping times) or if yield problem was so bad that we'll get the joy of both.

I have no doubt that someone will get to own a 21" in November though. It will be interesting to see how many.

I still think the early announcement was just a ploy to stop people from buying windows 8 machines. Apple knew they were not ready but figured they could string us around a little longer. Ugh I wish I didnt need a mac to program for iOS... (dont get me started on hack its a huge hassle)

I'm at peace with not getting the new mac 27 until Jan sometime. I'll be on vacation from mid Dec to mid Jan so actually anything during that time is a no go for me. I hope for others sake that it's released earlier rather than later though.

I'm betting late nov as they will want 21 and 27 to launch close together, it would look silly having only half your new products ready to order. My guess as the 21.5 goes on sale you will be able to pre order the 27.

I'm thinking 11/27 if it is to release on a Tuesday. Who knows though, might not be a Tuesday. Seems like these days Apple does whatever they want when it comes to releasing products.

I would think they would want to get the 21.5 out before Black Friday but we can guess all we want on a release date...

I know. I finally have some time off from work that weekend and it would be nice to get the new machine all set up. Either way, we're all better off than we were over the summer! At least now we know something is coming, it's just a matter of when (which isn't much longer for either model if they hold true to their Nov/Dec time frame)!

Since the Coming in November changed to Coming Soon I think it's safe to say they're coming very soon ;) Maybe even this friday.

What's your thoughts? Friday I think is iMac-day.

I prefer not to think about it, iMacs will come when they come xD

I reckon you are in for another ten to twelve days of waiting.

I reckon the 21" model will be towards the end of November... In an ideal world each product would get its own launch window to ensure repeated footfall within the Apple stores. The second tranche (cellular) of iPad minis and 4th gen iPads seem to be coming around 16-21 November, so if I were Apple I wouldn't be looking to muddy the waters by launching the iMac then.

Move another week further on and you are either on 23 November or into the week commending 26 November, which is course is the last possible week if Apple is to make good on its November commitment.

As for the 27" models, they could follow one or two weeks later, so w/c 3 or 10 December. Any later than 14 December and punters will have their minds focused on other things as Christmas approaches. And even an early December launch might see many business purchases deferred until the new year.

Of course, all of this is total speculation...

:

I can see that logic making sense had the iPad mini been launched concurrently with a "cannibalizing" product such as an iPhone or iPod Touch, but iMacs and iPad Minis are two different things, and Apple can only profit selling as many iMacs and iPad minis as possible. It won't "muddy" any waters.

Therefore I believe the iMac will come when it comes this month, but not in any way due to the iPad mini launch.

I'm sure the iMac will post the second they have clear supply. Does anyone really think Apple is happy about not having imacs to sell even for one day? No holiday, event or other product launch will matter to that end at this point.
