Hi MacRumors,

I'm Eugene, the developer of CrossDesk.

I'm looking for a few beta testers for a macOS utility I've been building for a fairly specific setup: two (or more) Macs on the same desk, usually a work Mac and a personal Mac, sharing an Apple Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad.

The problem I'm trying to solve is the usual Bluetooth switching routine. Universal Control is great when it works, but it does not fit every work and personal Mac setup. Apple Account differences, work-device policies, reliability issues, or sleep/wake behavior can all get in the way.

CrossDesk is not meant to replace Universal Control. It is for cases where you want the other Mac to take direct ownership of the keyboard, mouse, or trackpad and become a true "host" so you can safely close the "old" host if you no longer need it active.

Beta details:
  • installs on both Macs
  • requires macOS 13+
  • supports both Intel and Apple silicon Macs.
  • beta is currently free
  • best fit is a work Mac and personal Mac on the same desk
  • built for Apple Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad
  • may support non-Apple devices, although I didn't test this path thoroughly yet
  • not intended as a general KVM replacement
  • the app is signed and notarized
I'd especially like feedback on:
  • whether the setup flow makes sense
  • whether switching feels reliable enough for a normal workday
  • whether the permissions and security explanation feels clear
  • whether corporate/managed work Macs block the process
