I never encountered this issue on my m2 studio max or my m3 air (latest Sequoia).

Is it an m4 issue and have others had this issue ?
I'm thinking its a software issue, either with crossover or macos, not a chip issue

I don't have any crossover apps running, nor is crossover itself running yet I see a bunch of wine processes in memory. If I kill all of those, then I can fire up steam and play windows games. If I don't, steam will start and then just disappear from the dock after a few bounces.

Options for moving the cross over data off your internal drive.
First one is to move the Crossover folder found in ~/Library/Application support and replace it with a sym link.

  1. Quit Crossover;
  2. Open Finder, go to (cmd + shift + g) the folder /Users/username/Library/Application Support/;
  3. Copy and paste the whole CrossOver folder to the external drive;
  4. Open Terminal.app (in Finder, /Applications/Utilities/) and type "cd /Users/username/Library/Application Support/";
  5. Type "rm -r CrossOver" (be careful, it will remove the whole folder, so make sure to have your copy handy — or just rename it with "mv CrossOver CrossOver.old");
  6. Last, type "ln -s /Volumes/Data/˜CrossOver ." (mind the "." at the end), it will create a link directly from your Library files to the external drive;
  7. Relaunch CrossOver, check if everything is as it should.
The other option is to add a new drive that is hosted on your external drive that steam can access and install games from. That is, the main crossover folder still resides in ~/Library/Application Support but you can install steam games to this other drive.

In Crossover, open the selected bottle, for me its called steam
  1. Select Wine Configuration
  2. Click on the Drives Tab
  3. Click Add, pick a drive letter, and paste in the path of the drive e.g., /volumes/<Drive name>. Conversely you can select browse, scroll to the bottom and expand volumes to select the drive.
  4. Launch Steam
  5. Go to Settings
  6. Select Storage
  7. Add new drive
  8. Install any new games on that drive.
I used the first option, as it seems the most seamless. I did not see any performance impact to the games, i.e., they ran the same on my Macintosh HD and my external drive called Data
I love twin stick shooters and I see this has just come out -

Do you think it would run ok on my m2 mini pro using Crossover ?

I'm doing the renewal as well. Crossover on my MBA has been awesome. I guess you can let it expire and it'll still function - just without updates - but I wanted to support the effort.

I saw the earlier posts about the mouse pointer, which has been an annoyance for me too. StealthPointer to the rescue - just hit F1 (this is customizable) and it's gone.

I seem to be having one annoying bug in crossover for one specific game. When I play Fallout 76, and join a public event - so far it seems to be a specific public event, the game crashes.

I don't normally play public events, so this issue has largely hidden itself, I may fire up Geforce Now and see if happens there. This public event seems rather rare to find, so its hard to test. It costs 5,000 caps (rather high for in game currency), so its not something that you see in game on a daily basis.

I'm also thinking of upgrading to Tahoe, at this point I have nothing to lose, and maybe the underlining improvements to macOS may help

I'll probably wait on 26.3 before upgrading since I have had no issues with Sequoia.

I don't think its a macos bug. I had this more occur more often while back and I started changing the configuration, that largely fixed it. It seems this issue occurs in highly frenetic situations, where lots of people are doing lots of things (shooting stuff) that overwhelms the system. I've not seen this specific event while using geforce now, so its hard to pin it down.
